Services for Katherine Stevenson Howry, 89, of Ada are 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2024 at Covenant Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Revs. Coy Howry and Kathy Lofton will officiate; burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Howry passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024 in Hot Springs, AR. She was born June 25, 1935 in Stuart, OK to Edd Adlai Stevenson, Sr. and Jessie Ellen Oglesby.

Mrs. Howry graduated from McLish High School in 1954 and married Jack Berry Howry on June 4, 1954 at Latta Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In 1959, she attended East Central State College and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in English and Physical Education. Mrs. Howry received her Master’s of Teaching in 1962. She taught at Ada Junior High for 31 years, retiring in 1991. She then worked as a genealogist, and was a regular volunteer and board member at the Pontotoc County Historical and Genealogical Society.

She grew up and lived in the Ada area most of her life until moving to Arkansas in November 2023 to be closer to family. She was associated with Covenant Cumberland Presbyterian Church and First Baptist Church of Ada. Mrs. Howry was involved in the Stonewall McLish Education Foundation, Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, War of 1812 Society and Jamestown Society.

Survivors include her daughter, Kristin Grant and her husband, Matthew, grandson, Jacob Grant; a special cousin, Donna Cadwalader; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Berry Howry; parents; son, Landon Clay Howry; granddaughter, Taylor Nicole Howry; sister, Mildred Thomas; and two brothers, Jimmy Stevenson and Edd Adlai Stevenson, Jr.

Bearers are Matthew Grant, Jacob Grant, Mark White, Randy Gilbert, Bart Stevenson, and Steve Howry.

The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Rd, 2nd Floor, Bethesda, Maryland 20841; or the Covenant Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 15791 SH 1W, Ada, OK 74820.
