Services for Alma Jo Conway, 70, formerly of Ardmore will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with the Rev. John D. Norvell officiating. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

Jo died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at an Oklahoma City hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born May 30, 1934, in Ardmore to Milton and Alma Eads Ramsey.

She received a bachelor of arts degree and a master of education degree from East Central University. While attending East Central University, she worked part-time for KTEN as a weather girl and newscaster. At the end of each newscast in exchange for advertising, she would model her hairstyle and clothes furnished by local businesses. She studied at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff and was admitted for doctoral study at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.

She married Jim Conway Sr. on Aug. 21, 1950. They were married for 54 years.

Jo began her teaching career at Ardmore Public Schools teaching English and journalism. She was also the yearbook and newspaper sponsor. She taught at McLish Public Schools from 1968 to 1970. She began her tenure at East Central University in 1973. She served as counselor in Student Support Services for one year and as Assistant Upward Bound Director for three years. She was appointed Talent Search Director in 1977. She was awarded the Educational Opportunity Center grant in 1991, serving as Program Director. Before joining East Central, Jo was women's counselor, college recruiter, and classroom instructor at Murray State College in Tishomingo.

Jo was an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where she was lay reader and helped with Matthew 25 Mission. She was also active in St. Margaret's Guild.

Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Luther Harbert, Tishomingo ; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim Jr. and Susan Conway, Edmond; a sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Leon Payne, Oklahoma City; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jennifer (Harbert) Self and husband, Byron, Kenna and Blakelyn Self, Madill, Jeff and Krystle Harbert of Frisco, Texas, and Jamie, Ramsey and John Luther Conway of Edmond.

The family says those who wish may make memorials to the Jo Conway Scholarship Fund, c/o East Central University Foundation, Box Y-8, Ada, OK 74820.

Services are under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home.
