Services for Jerry Vernon Buckner, 54, of Ada are 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Brad Graves will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
Mr. Buckner passed away Monday, January 23, 2017 in Ada. He was born October 2, 1962 in Rockwall, TX to Clois and Mary East Buckner. He graduated from Southeastern University with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, received his Master’s in School Administration from Northeastern University and his Superintendent’s Certification from Oklahoma State University.
He married Robyn Toni Humphries April 15, 1989 in McAlester. Mr. Buckner had been a teacher at Nashoba Schools and Tannehill Schools where he was chosen “Teacher of the Year”, then he had been a Principal at Avant School and later retired as a Superintendent of Schools at Wellston and Milfay. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ada. Mr. and Mrs. Buckner had served as International Missionaries for the Southern Baptist Convention.
Survivors include his parents, Clois and Mary Buckner of Adair; his wife, Robyn, of the home; a daughter, Megan Leigh Buckner, of the home; two brothers, Carl Buckner and Tommy Buckner, both of Adair; two sisters, Vickie Ross of Foyil and Lora Keeton of Talala; and several nieces and nephews.
Bearers will be Carl Buckner, Tommy Buckner, Heath Buckner, Joe Keeton, Scott Kersey and Jason Kersey.
