Services for Bert Eudell Bledsoe (“Dad”, “Pepa”), 85, of Union Valley are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2024, at First Methodist Church; Rev. Brian Matthews will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.
Mr. Bledsoe passed away Monday, July 1, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Ada. He was born November 4, 1938, in Checotah, OK to Charles and Frances Elizabeth Kirkland Bledsoe. He graduated from Checotah High School and attended college at Northeastern State University, receiving his Chemistry Degree.
Mr. Bledsoe went on to obtain his Masters at the University of Oklahoma, choosing the University of Oklahoma due to being an enthusiastic Sooner fan.
While attending Northeastern University, Bert met his wife of 64 years, Coleen Bledsoe. Together they had three children, Debbie, Melanie and Brian. In 1967, Bert was offered an opportunity to work as a research chemist at the Robert S. Kerr Environmental Research Center in Ada. Bert and Coleen moved their family immediately. Bert then worked for Kerr Lab for over 30 years before retiring.
After this change Bert became a bona fide farmer and spent the rest of this life expanding a hobby into a full-time job.
Survivors include, wife Coleen, daughter Debbie Purton (Tim) and daughter Melanie Lawson; four grandchildren, Blake Lawson (Ali), Taylor Lawson (Colbi), Nicole Stull (Cody) and Jake Purton (Lindsay) and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Brian.
Bearers are Taylor Lawson, Blake Lawson, Jake Purton, Tim Purton, Cody Stull and Tim Hensley. Honorary bearers are Dick Scalf, Virgil Bledsoe, Lowell Leach, Clint Hall and Scott Huling.
