A Celebration of Life for George A. Smith, 74, of Ada will be 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Papa Gjorgio North, 1600 N. Mississippi in Ada.

Mr. Smith died Saturday, February 7, 2015 at his home. He was born October 31, 1940 in Ft. Smith, AR to Byron T. and Lois Sourk Smith. He and his family moved to Ada in 1943 from Poteau. He attended Washington Grade School and Ada High School and graduated from Norman High School in 1958. He attended East Central University in Ada and graduated from the University of Oklahoma.

He married Merlene Penn Haskins on July 7, 1992 in Hot Springs, AR. Mr. Smith retired as a banking manager. He had worked in the Banking, Oil, and Insurance Industry. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at the University of Oklahoma, the OU Alumni Association, a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #1640, and the American Legion. Mr. Smith served in the U. S. Army Reserve for eight years, being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.

Survivors include his wife, Merlene Smith, of the home; a daughter, Shelley Loomis of Dallas, TX; three step-daughters, Kelly Kyle and husband Gregg of Flower Mound, TX, Shelly Thomas of Guthrie and Sari Northcutt and husband Bill of Plano, TX; a brother-in-law, Leslie Penn and wife Roxan of Ada; and four grandchildren, Cameron Gillispie, Madison Gillispie, Ryan Kyle and Austin Kyle.

Bearers will be Pete Williams, Jim Dicus, Wayne King, Joe Davis, Travis Henderson, Jim Mashore and Tommy Redman. Honorary bearers will be Linda Knickmeyer, Paulette Spillers, Brenda Carter, Bobbie Gray and Gay Harrison Veliu.

The family says those who wish may make memorials in memory of George A. Smith to the Mike Dicus Memorial of Lambda Chi Alpha, 904 College, Norman, OK 73072.
