THURMAN RAY LILLY
1928 - 2004
Services: Tues., March 8, 1:00 p.m.Graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Cemetery, 2739 Panama Ln., Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. for Thurman Ray Lilly, 76, who passed away February 28, 2005.
Thurman was born in Ada, Oklahoma on April 8, 1928 where he resided until his family moved to Kern County at the age of six. He was married to Mildred Lowe in 1948 and worked as an irrigation foreman on a ranch outside of Delano, CA. He and Mildred had ten children, six boys and four girls. Thurmans career in farming ended in 1959 when he seriously injured his back and subsequently developed severe spinal arthritis.
He then shifted careers spending six months working on-the-job training (without pay) learning to be a dental technician. As with most everything else that Thurman did he excelled in this line of work, retiring in 1992 with an outstanding reputation amongst local area dentists and amongst his peers. Those who knew Thurman use the terms honesty and hard work when describing him; he will be remembered as a man who could be trusted to do whatever it is he said he would do and as a person who could be counted on to help in any way he could in a time of need.
He moved to Las Vegas in 2001 and lived with his daughter, Sandy Carroll until he went on to be with the Lord. He is preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Clara Lilly, his sister; Ida Lilly, and his daughter; Gina Lilly. He is survived by his other sister, Berta Collins, and his nine other children: Mike Lilly, Danny Lilly, Gary Lilly, Diane Lilly, Terry Lilly, Rick Lilly, Sandy Carroll, Tina Lilly, and Ronnie Lilly. In addition he leaves behind a huge linage of 28 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Thurman was a great man and will be missed by all who knew him.
