Billy Ray Stephens

Funeral services for Billy Ray Stephens, 75, Ada, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2009 at Trinity Baptist Church, Ada. Officiating was Rev. Gary Jamar, assisted by the Rev. Rusty Fuller. Burial followed in Oakman Cemetery under the direction of Smith-Phillips Funeral Home, Ada .

Mr. Stephens was born April 19, 1933, at Lightning Ridge to Albert Stephens and Bertha Twyman Stephens and died Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at his home.

He and Osie Jane Weller were married on Sept. 19, 1953, at Ada. She preceded him in death on Feb. 27, 1995.

Mr. Stephens attended Lightning Ridge Public School while growing up. He worked as a welder for Holnam Cement Plant in Ada for 39 years before retiring in 1997. He was a lifelong resident of Ada and was a member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church in Latta.

He is survived by a son, Billy Stephens and his wife Gayla of Ada; one daughter, Sherry Haynes and her husband Rodney of Ada; one brother, Thurman Stephens of Ada; three sisters, Eula Mae Brown, Shawnee, Mary Lou Cornell-Jones, Roff, and Shirley Stephens, Ada; two granadson, Brandon Stephens and his wife Misty of Ada and Matthew Ryan Haynes and his fiancé Kacie Wilson of Ada; four granddaughters, Shawna Senkel and her husband Scott of Ada, Rhonda Willis and her husband Jeff of Ada, Kimberly Massey and her husband Heath of Newcastle, and Branda Stephens of Ada; and seven great-grandchildren, Shaylee and Savannah Senkel, Jordan and Jaylee Willis, Caden and Emersyn Massey and Brayleigh Stephens.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Osie Jane Stephens; his parents, Albert and Bertha Stephens; five brothers, Robert, Virgil, Carl, Donald and Roy Stephens; and two sisters, Ruby Lee Johnson and Mildred Harber.

Bearers were Stan Cochran, Wayne King, Jim Jackson, R.V. Brady, Andy Anderson, Jackie Teel, Mick Cristelli and Johnny Flowers.

Honorary bearers were his nephews and former Ideal Cement Plant co-workers.
