A Celebration of Life service for Abbie “LaVena” Sayre Ortega Madden age 83 of Ada, OK will be at 10 am Saturday, June 3, 2017 in the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel in Ada, OK with Rev. Kenneth Wade officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethel Cemetery in Byng, OK under the direction of Criswell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday, June 2, 2017 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the Criswell Funeral Home. Local arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

LaVena was born June 4, 1933 in Fillmore, OK to Harry I. and Mary G. Maurical Sayre and passed away at her daughter’s home in Enid on May 25, 2017. She graduated from Tishomingo High School and received her Bachelor Degree in Education from East Central Oklahoma State University in 1977. She married Raymond Ortega in 1951. She later married Edgar Madden in 1972. She taught in the Byng School System for 26 years and retired in 1994.

She is survived by her children; Dr. Sandra Ortega-Wade and husband Doug of Enid, Brenda Sanders and husband Stanley of Fulshear, TX, Larry Ortega and wife Sonia of Houston, TX. grandchildren; Jeff Morrison and wife Lindsey, Casey Morrison, Carly Maly and husband Jarrod, Elise Wade, and Wendi Phelps and husband Trey, great grandchildren; Serenity, Donovan, Kaylee, Bryleigh, Cade, McClain, Sutton, Ella and Emerson, a sister LaVerle Pryor, two brothers LaRoyce and LaDon Sayre and several other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edgar “Curley” Madden, daughter Deborah Morrison, grandson Stan Sanders, Jr, two sisters LaDell Willis and LaWana Sayre.

Memorials may be made to the LaVena Ortega Madden Scholarship fund with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
