U.S. Veteran Ronald L. “Ron” Byrd, 86, of Tecumseh, OK passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 in Oklahoma City.

He was born June 7, 1932 to Alford and Agnes (Westrope) Byrd in Konawa, Oklahoma. Ron was raised in Konawa and graduated with the class of 1950 from Konawa High School. He married Geneva Higdon in December of 1969 in Ada, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death on June 19, 2001.

Ron proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and retired from the Army National Guard. He retired from Tinker Air Force Base. After returning from the Navy in the 1950’s he worked in electronics and radio repair. Ron loved volunteering his time to many organizations, including the Salvation Army. He enjoyed traveling and playing dominos at Tecumseh Senior Citizen Center.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Byrd; his parents, Alford and Agnes Byrd; 2 sisters, Chanson Jean Thomas and Patricia Ann Coward; step-son, Johnny Davis; step-daughter, Chris Purdy; and step-granddaughter, Misty Lee Purdy.

Survivors include nephews, Garry and JoElla Thomas of Edmond, OK and Larry D. and Polly Thomas of Keller, TX; 2 step-sons, Gene and Laura Davis of Clarkston, WA and Tony Miller of Tecumseh, OK; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2019. No Formal Services will be held. Private family burial will be at New Bethel Cemetery in Byng, OK under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
