Services for Melba Jean Burris, 74, of Byng are 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Center Free Will Baptist Church, Revs. Earl Hood and Toby Willoughby will officiate. Burial will follow at New Bethel Cemetery at Byng. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Burris passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019 at her home. She was born July 2, 1945 at Antlers to John Austin and Oma Vera Frey Hatcher. She attended Antlers schools and graduated from Antlers High School in 1963.
She married Junior Burris August 8, 1964. He preceded her in death November 21, 2016. Mrs. Burris was a Licensed Practical Nurse with the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center until her retirement.
Survivors include three daughters, Tonya Ulrich and husband Bryan, Trinda Zukosky and husband Anthony and Shanella Burris; son, Stoney Burris; three sisters, Naomi Blackford, Mary White and Norma Gaston; five brothers, Billy Hatcher, Carl Hatcher, Donald Hatcher, Dewey Hatcher and James Hatcher; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters, Doris Stone and Katherine Pfaff.
Bearers will be Shane Dominey, Jackie Hatcher, James Howard Hatcher, James Dale Blackford, Don Hatcher, and Wallace Gregston. Honorary bearers will be Stevie Hatcher, Larry Fowler, Wesley Fowler and Scotty Fowler.
