Services for Dr. Bruce McMillan Van Horn, 80, of Ada are 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, Rev. Brian Matthews will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Dr. Van Horn passed away Monday, October 21, 2019 at an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born February 25, 1939 at Oklahoma City to Archibald and Etti Kershaw Van Horn. He attended school in Oklahoma City and graduated from the University of Oklahoma Medical School. He moved to Ada about 1970.
He married Sherry Woolly Sutton on June 3, 1983. Dr. Van Horn was a Pathologist at Valley View Regional Hospital (later Mercy Hospital) for 49 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was an avid Ada High School Cougars and O.U. Football fan. He recently received a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the College of American Pathologists. Dr. Van Horn placed second in the World Series of Poker in 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry, of the home; five sons, Bruce Van Horn and wife Karina, Dallas, TX, Patrick Van Horn, Oklahoma City, Bruce Sutton and wife Lindsay, Choctaw, Clint Sutton and wife Brooke, Ada and Archie Van Horn and wife Janessa, Ada; his grandchildren, Kathryn, Phoebe, Kamryn, Kynlee, Ashlyn, Kadyn, Gage and Molly; and his mother-in-law, Louise Woolly.
Bearers will be Casey Gentry, Jamie Hart, Matt Newcombe, Skippy Hart, Tanner Landrum and Cody Hill. Honorary bearers will be the members of the Homebuilders Sunday School Class.
