Services for Charles Love Taylor, 84, of Konawa are 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Tony Folger will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Ada. The U. S. Marines Honor Guard will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.
Mr. Taylor passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at a local nursing home. He was born October 28, 1934 at Thermopolis, WY to Sherman S. Q. and Nonie Louise Wilkirson Taylor. He graduated from Horace Mann High School and East Central University.
He married Mary Ellen Jumper November 8, 1956. Mr. Taylor served in the U. S. Marines during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, retiring as a Captain. While in the Marines, he was stationed at marine Headquarters in Washington and was the 1st Marine in the NSA (National Security Administration). He later retired from the National Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel. Mr. Taylor then moved to Washington, D. C. and owned and operated a filling station. He later moved back to Ada and owned and operated No Delay and Tip-Top Cleaners.
Mr. Taylor worked for the Oklahoma Tax Commission, retiring as the Deputy Director. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Ada.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of the home; son, Jimmy Taylor and wife Lynn of Konawa; a daughter-in-law, Sharilyn Taylor of Konawa; sister, Kay Reed and husband Gary of Ada; two brothers, Sherman Edward Taylor and Dillard Taylor, both of Ada; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth Stemple, Meridian, ID, Christopher Taylor, Oklahoma City, Samuel Taylor and Jacob Taylor, both of Konawa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Stephen Douglas Taylor, September 1, 2013.
Bearers will be men who served in his unit in the National Guard: Jerry Snow, Darrel Rhoades, Farrel Rhoades, Marvin Mitchell and Marvin Barbee; and Mike O’Brian ( Charles was his best-man in his wedding).
