Graveside services for Dr. Ray Quiett, 86, of Ada are 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Dr. Quiett passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 at his home with his family by his side. He was born November 8, 1934 in Levelland, TX to Norris and Veomia Lobstein Quiett. He graduated from Levelland High School; received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in 1956; a Bachelor of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1959; Master’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1967; Masters of Divinity, SW Baptist Theologicial Seminary in 1968; and a PhD from Oklahoma State University in 1977.
He married Connie Gerlach in 1956 at Levelland, TX. She preceded him in death in 2016. Dr. Quiett was an East Central University Professor Emeritus (1964-1997); Division of Social Sciences, Department of Sociology; received a Distinguished Former Faculty Award in 2008. He rose from professor to Department Head to Division Head. Dr. Quiett was a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); Certified at the International level by ITAA (International Transactional Analysis Association) as a Clinical Therapist. He has been a counselor for over thirty years and has been doing supervision for the last 27 years. Dr. Quiett served as Pastor for the Byars Baptist Church for several years in Byars, OK.
Dr. Quiett and his wife Connie were active members of the Covenant Church in Latta. They served in services, missions and other church activities. He was an active member of the local Rotary Club and a private pilot and served a number of years on the Ada Airport Commission.
Survivors include a son, Karry Brent Quiett, Tulsa; daughter, Karis Lachelle Chastain, Farmington, AR; sister, Sue Nolen of Texas; and two grandchildren, Luke Rhoades and Phillip Rhoads, both of Arkansas.
Those wishing to may make donations in lieu of flowers to Doctors Without Borders, St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital, or the Mission of Covenant Church, Latta.
