Alfred Mack "Luke" Neely August 14, 1928 - August 18, 2020 © Criswell Funeral Home Submitted by: Sandy Bain
Services for Alfred Mack “Luke” Neely, 92, of Ada are 2:00 p.m. Monday at Trinity Baptist Church, Rev. Richard Bailey and Dr. Rusty Fuller will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Neely passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at a Shawnee hospital. He was born August 14, 1928 at Conway, OK to Thomas and Eunice Raney Neely. He lived in this area all of his life. He attended Conway Grade School and Byng High School. While a student at Byng, he drove a school bus starting at age 16. He was a member of the Boys Basketball Championship Team coached by Bill Koller.
At age 18, he began working for Hazel Atlas Glass Company which later became Continental Can and finally Brockway Glass Company. He retired as a Mold Maker after 43 years. He then helped establish a transportation business by driving for Lanny Glasscock and Roadrunner Transit. He continued to work with Roadrunner until March of this year. Luke and Lanny were quite the pair of cowboys!
Luke married Betty Lou Deaton June 1, 1948 at Holdenville. She preceded him in death April 26, 2019 in Ada. He and Betty were members of Trinity Baptist Church. Luke loved watching sports, especially if his grandkids were playing. He missed very few games. He would then proceed to coach them once he got them to himself. He also spent many hours solving the worlds’ problems with the McDonald’s Men Group “Knights of the Round Table”. Luke bowled in a bowling league after his retirement and enjoyed his time with his bowling buddies. Dad never met a stranger. He made friends easily and impacted so many people with his true heart of gold.
Dad was always alert and knew what was going on, especially with his finances. He was always teaching his kids with his words of wisdom and advice. His family is especially proud of the way he took care of their mom during the last few years of her life. He truly showed us what it meant to love and care for someone by putting them first.
