Services for Lionel Garrett, 78, of Ada are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, Rev. Brian Matthews will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Garrett died Saturday, April 20, 2019 at his home surrounded by family and friends after suffering a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was born September 13, 1940 in Coalgate, Oklahoma to Maurice and Barbara Green Garrett. He graduated from Coalgate High School. He married Peggy Garrett in 1963 and had two children, Craig and Carla Garrett. Mr. Garrett received his Accounting Degree from the University of Oklahoma and was the President of the Sigma Chi fraternity at OU. Mr. Garrett remained an avid OU football fan throughout his life. Mr. Garrett was President of the Garret Book Company, which has been in business over 60 years, selling books to school libraries. He loved the Book Company and was proud to carry on the business after the passing of his father and brother. Until his death, Mr. Garrett continued to be actively involved in the operations of the Garrett Book Company. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Ada Country Club. Mr. Garrett loved to travel and was fortunate to see the United States and the world. He most recently travelled to Turkey. He also visited Eqypt, South Africa, Botswana, Canada, most of Europe, and parts of Central and South America. In addition, Mr. Garrett took numerous vacations throughout the United States, and loved his home in the mountains in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Mr. Garrett will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. He will also be remembered as a fighter that never gave up, notwithstanding his battle with MS for over 50 years. He will be missed. Survivors include his daughter, Carla Garrett; a granddaughter, Maya Srinivasan; a grandson, Vikram Srinivasan; and three nieces, Lacey Jones, Keely Smith and Brittny Garrett. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.M. and Barbara Garrett; his brother, John Garrett; and his son, Craig Garrett.
