Graveside services for Mary Ethel Elliott, 99, of Ada are 2:00 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rev. Toby Willoughby and Mr. Thurman Rinehart will officiate.
Ms. Elliott passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at a local nursing home. She was born May 21, 1916 in Cookeville, TN to Tony Syphers and Nancy Tennessee LaFever Gambrell. She and her family came to Oklahoma by train in 1920. The oldest of nine children, she grew up in the Stonewall area and attended Lula and Pleasant Grove schools.
She was a long-time resident of the Latta community and one of the early members of Morris Memorial Baptist Church. Ms. Elliott was well acquainted in Ada, having spent many years working at Valley View Regional Hospital in dietary, cafeteria and the P & MR’s restaurant.
She is survived by her sons, Gene Paul Elliott and wife Joan, Ada, Jerry Don Elliott and wife Jeanne, Vanoss, and Roger Dale Elliott and wife Londa, Ada; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Robert Ray Elliott; sisters, Ollie Gambrell, Lanola Marsh, Marie Fine, Carrie Griffin and Geneva Marsh; brothers, Hubert Gambrell, Thurman Gambrell and Charles Gambrell; and a step-granddaughter, Karen Gamble.
Her grandsons will serve as bearers.
