Leora Mae Byers, 100, of Comanche, Oklahoma walked into Heaven into the presence of her Lord and Savior on May 7, 2024, in Duncan. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2024 at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Leora Mae Glass was born December 11, 1923, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to John Samuel Glass and Elma Snyder Glass. Her family then moved to Rattan, Oklahoma. She gave her heart to her Lord and Savior at the age of 13. She was baptized at the age of 13 in Rock Creek near Belzoni, Oklahoma. She and Johnnie C. Byers met in Hickory, Oklahoma and fell in love and were married, July 6,1940 and made their first home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. During the war as her husband was overseas, she moved to be near family members in Ada, Oklahoma. For more than 36 years, Leora was beloved wife of Johnnie who died in January of 1976. Leora and Johnnie made their church home at Trinity Baptist Church, Ada, Oklahoma, from 1947 until 1989. She was a Women’s Missionary President for the Banner Association, supporter and leader. She led many Bible studies and was a vacation Bible school leader and teacher of children as well as women’s Bible classes. She worked at many places in Ada, at Steven’s Dress Shop, Gibson’s, and the Good Book Store. She was the receptionist of Dr. Pettit for many years. In 1989 she moved to Comanche, OK, where she made her home near her son and daughter-in-law. She then worked with them in their framing and matting shop, CVS Frames, for many years, loving every moment of meeting new people and sharing the Gospel as she went. Leora will be missed by all who knew and love her.

Left to cherish her memory are her two children, Johnnie E. Byers and wife, Shirley of Comanche, Okla. and Carol Byers Current and husband Lonnie of Ada, OK; six grandchildren, Sherrie Renee Dotson of Chickasha, OK, John Anthony Byers and wife, Kasey of Duncan, OK, Amy Carol Current McAlester of Ada, OK, Jeffrey Bryan Current and wife, Amy of Reno, NV, Jonithan and wife, Emily Dotson, of Chickasha, OK, and Nichole Roberts, of Las Vagas, NV; great grandchildren, Aubrey Bricker, Lawton, OK, Bailey and husband Dylan Huffman, of Tacoma, WA, Kaden Byers, Duncan, OK, Eliot Anne Current, and Fisher William Current of Reno, NV, Casidy McMeans and husband, Law of Ada, OK, Courtney Word and husband, Jack of Wister, OK; great great grandchildren, Case, Chloe, and Claridy Word, Amaeryse and Pryor McMeans, Kylan, Keigan and Grant Huffman, Ceryn Dotson, Aurora and Justice Bricker, Eein and Zoey Roberts

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, Johnnie Columbus Byers; three brothers, Andrew Jackson Glass, Earnest Glass, Edgar Glass; and one sister, Mary Louise Glass Coventry.
