Graveside services for Vernon Ray McCurdy, 84, of Ada are 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Maxwell Cemetery, Rev. Earl Hood will officiate. The Chickasaw Nation Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. McCurdy passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the Norman Veterans Center. He was born November 4, 1933 at Carnegie, OK to Manuel Emmitt and Ethel Jewel Brecheen McCurdy. He attended Galey schools.
He married Beulah Mae Mixon December 29, 1954. She preceded him in death August 17, 1999. Mr. McCurdy was a self-employed mechanic and welder in the oilfield industry and also a longtime Ford mechanic. He was a longtime member of Evangelistic Temple and had served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict with the 307 Periodic Maintenance Squadron. He served as a mechanic from 1952-1956, was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Mr. McCurdy was honored with a trip to Washington, D. C. with the Oklahoma Honor Flight April 2018.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Ann Madden and husband Dwain and Brenda Sue Schultz and husband Tommy, all of Ada; a brother, Gene McCurdy, Ada; sister, Joyce Hughs, Galey; his grandchildren, Stacy Schultz and wife Natalie, Ryan Schultz, Amanda Madden Lawrence and husband Chase and Angela Madden Gurley and husband Braden; three great-grandchildren, Catie Lawrence, Kennedy Willingham and Kourtney Willingham.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Herman and Earl.
