Services for Dorothy Irene Davis, 89, of Spencer, formerly of Ada, are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Philemon Baptist Church, Rev. Willard Dallas will officiate. Burial will follow at Leader Cemetery, east of Ada.

Mrs. Davis died Saturday, August 4, 2012 at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was born December 19, 1923 in Red Spring Community, near Allen, Oklahoma to John and Mary Lucy Nero Townsend. She attended a one-room school at Carver Grade School in Red Spring. She was one of the first students to graduate from Langston University High School. After graduation, she went on to attend Langston University.

She married Jacob Davis on October 10, 1947. He preceded her in death on October 25, 1999. Mrs. Davis was a domestic worker for over 35 years and worked for Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Pitt, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Moore, Duane Moore and Mr. and Mrs. Sid Spears. Mrs. Davis was baptized at an early age at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She became a member of Philemon Baptist Church in the late 1940’s. She served faithfully and wholeheartedly through the years and held numerous positions such as Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher, State Youth Director of the Southwest Creek Landmark District Congress of Christian Education, Choir Member, Secretary of Tithes and Offerings, Secretary of Membership and she also taught Vacation Bible School. She worked on the committee to raise funds for the building of the “new” Philemon. She and her niece, Dr. Joann Clark were part of the force behind the restarting the Napier reunions. Mrs. Davis was an avid reader, quilter and cook.

Survivors include two sons, William Ware Davis and wife Debra of Ardmore, and Charles Michael Davis and wife Susan of Los Angeles, CA; a daughter, Sharon Davis of Spencer; 19 grandchildren, Jake Black and wife Palestine, John Black and wife Carmen, Vielka Harrison and husband Ken, Maruha Love and husband Mario, Xiomara Davis and son Joshua, Sheryl Scales and husband Rust, Quinton Scales and wife Lisa, Stacey Fields, Kristi McKinney, Tori Perry and husband Kevin, Dani Taylor and husband Ben, Jeremy Davis, Cameron Davis, LaShawn Davis, Chris Davis Jr., and wife Sarah, Khalena Carr and husband James, Deon Davis, Donte Davis and Lashelle Knight; 40 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughter, Hermie DeLoyce McKinney and Gwendolyn Black Bagby; son, Christopher Davis; granddaughter Carolstyne Burks; four brothers, Willie Black, John Henry Townsend Sr., Dewey Townsend and Otis Townsend; sisters, Lenora Juanita Townsend Woodward Dealy Gillispie, Vernice Townsend; two nephews whom she helped to raise, John Henry Townsend Jr., and Chauncey Townsend.
