Iva Lois (Bennett) Sligher September 18, 1933 - November 7, 2023 © Criswell Funeral Home Submitted by: Sandy Bain
Mrs. Sliger passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023 in Stonewall. She was born September 18, 1933 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Winston Isaac and Carmie Lela (Wallace) Bennett. She and Willard Lee Sliger were married at Stonewall, OK January 4, 1950. To this union were born Judy Lee (Sliger) Husted and Annette Lin (Sliger) Welch.
Iva Lois gave her life to the Lord at a young age and faithfully served him until the day she died.
The first time she met her husband was when she was 15 and visiting church at Owl Creek, where her grandparents and Willard's family lived. When it came time for the Sunday School penny march Willard, who was sitting behind her, noticed she didn't have a penny to put in the offering plate so he gave her one. After that, they corresponded mostly by mail, until he came home from the army. They married when she was 16, and lived at Owl Creek all 68 years of their marriage, until Willard passed away in 2018.
She used her gifts for the Lord and for her community, especially at the Owl Creek Community Church, where she sang, played piano, and used her beautiful handwriting to keep records and send out cards and letters as the secretary and treasurer for over 50 years. She was a supportive farmers wife and mother. She was a seamstress, even working with her girls on their wedding dresses. She helped with the farm work as needed, but her farming passion was bottle feeding orphan calves. She loved gardening, her small greenhouse, and the challenge of propagating plants, which she was exceptionally good at. She had an amazing gift of hospitality and took joy in taking care of those in her home - whether they were family, friends, neighborhood children she babysat or guests.
Iva Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Willard; one grandson, John B. Husted; one son-in-law, Michael D. Welch; and two brothers, Thomas J. "T.J." Bennett and Billy Joe Bennett.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law; Annette Welch of Stonewall; Judy Husted and husband Ben of Prague; and by four granddaughters; Crystal Ahrend and husband Matt of Ada, Carrie Odell and husband Jeff of Ada, Joy Lin Hall and husband Brant of Claremore, Rebekah Lynam and husband Matt of Lexington, and one granddaughter-in-law Missy Husted of Paden; and by three great-grandsons: Nate Ahrend, Levi Ahrend and Grayson Odell all of Ada.
