Services for Joe David Roberts, 92, of Ada are 2 p.m., Friday, May 14, 2021 at Fitzhugh Baptist Church, Rev. Steve Wilburn will officiate. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery in Roff, OK. The family will receive friends from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mr. Roberts passed away Saturday, May 8, 2021 at his home. He was born October 9, 1928 in Rush Springs, OK to J.T. “Tut” and Lois Lee Jones Roberts. He and his family moved to the Sunshine community near Roff in 1936, he attended Fitzhugh schools, graduating in 1947. He attended Murry State College for two years before joining the Army. From 1950-1953 he trained mules and transported them to Turkey for military service. He married Lois Pauline Gollihare in 1960.

He was a member of the Saddle Bronc. Association and an original and life long member of the Turtle Rodeo Association which later became the PRCA.

In later years he went from state to state showing the Appaloosa Champion “Skippers Caption”. He continued to breed and show Appaloosa and Quarter horses for many years. Joe was constantly working with cattle and he was a life long coon hunter and raised champion Blue Tick hounds. In later years he worked with the Ada Livestock Auction.

Survivors include his wife Lois of the home; his children, Tommy Roberts, Brenda Bolin, Jay Roberts, and Justin Roberts; his grandchildren, Cody Roberts, Kaycee Thomspon, Jakus Roberts, Max Roberts, Jody Roberts, Whitney Gordon, Blake Bolin, Madison Bolin and Sage Roberts; and great grandchildren, Bostyn, Brock, Tristan, River, and Aspen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thomas Max “Jaybird” Roberts; and son, Steven Michael “Mike” Roberts.

Bearers will be Jakus Roberts, Cody Roberts, Jake Thompson, Jody Roberts, Blake Bolin, Tommy Roberts, and Jay Roberts.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Cowboy Crisis Fund, P.O. Box 243, Fittstown, OK.

He will be missed throughout the community where he lived and was well known; and by his family that knew him as a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.
