Donald Edgar Palmer

Graveside services for Donald Edgar Palmer, 97, of Roff are 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2022 at East Hill Cemetery near Roff. Rev. Steve Wilburn will officiate.

Mr. Palmer passed away Sunday, April 17, 2022 at home. He was born October 16, 1924 at Elma, Washington to Rollie Edgar and Nora Bell Howard Palmer. He graduated from Moore High School in 1942 and attended the University of Oklahoma in 1949 and obtained a degree in Pharmacy.

He married the love of his life Charlene “Charlie” Lane April 17, 1949. She preceded him in death October 16, 2002. He passed away on what would have been their 73rd wedding anniversary. Mr. Palmer was a Pharmacist for T.G. & Y and Walgreens in the Houston area and later in Oklahoma City, Moore and Norman until his retirement.

While he was a pharmacist, in 1958, he worked at Katz Drug Store in Oklahoma City. He was there when Clara Luper, the advocate for rights for blacks, and others initiated a sit-in for Black Rights.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. His passion in life was to raise, breed and train cutting horses. Him and his wife, Charlie, enjoyed competing in rodeos throughout the United States. Throughout the rodeo years he collected numerous amounts of belt buckles, saddles and cash prizes. He also, was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the NCAA Cutting Horse Association.

Survivors include a friend, Roland Vietzke, Stratford; three nephews, John Brent Brinkley and wife Karla, Todd Brinkley and Bryan Zane and wife Diane; a great-niece, Brandi Hartman and husband Josh; great-nephews, Boone Brinkley, Taylor Brinkley and Kyle Zane; great-great nephews, Devon Hartman, Darien Hartman, Stephen Hartman, Derrick Zane and Liberty Zane; and a great-great-great niece, Brinley Hartman.
