Services for Leonard Dayton Morgan, 97, of Fitzhugh are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2022 at Fitzhugh First Baptist Church. Steve Wilburn and Rev. Doug Burrows will officiate. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery at Roff, Oklahoma.
Mr. Morgan passed away, April 1, 2022 at Arbuckle Hospital, Sulphur, OK.
He was born May 4, 1924, at home in Fitzhugh, Oklahoma, to Dayton and Ola Morgan. Leonard graduated from Fitzhugh School and Draughn Business School, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He married Marie Theresa Robison on April 4, 1947 in Fitzhugh. They were married 72 years before her passing in 2019.
Mr. Morgan was also a WWII Army Veteran, Technician Fourth Grade, 539 Quartermaster, REP.SAL.CO., Rifle Sharp Shooter, with a Good Conduct Medal where he served in the Philippine Liberation, Norther Solomons, Luzon for the years 1943-1946. He was instrumental in keeping vital communications flowing to the commanders in the South Pacific.
Mr. Morgan was a longtime member of the Fitzhugh First Baptist Church, where he helped in the construction of the original church building where it stands today. He also served as Sunday School Director, Pulpit Committee, Deacon, Choir Member, Building Committee and a member of The Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. Five generations of the Morgan family attended at different intervals of time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dayton and Ola; beloved wife, Marie; daughter, Kathy; three sisters, Estelle, Mary and Ethel; and brother, Howard.
Survivors include two sons, Shelby Morgan and wife Gayle of Roff and Keith Morgan, of Roff; son-in-law, Chuck Brendle, husband of Kathy, of Roff; his grandchildren, Scott and Melissa Morgan, of Roff, Stacy and Danny Cates of Overland Park, KS., Kristen and Bob Taylor, of Blanchard, OK., Kelley and Matt Turner, of Roff, Niki and Joe Gray, of Ada, Brandon Morgan, of Ada; great-grandchildren, Garrett Morgan, of Roff, Audrey and Austin Cates, Overland Park, KS., Breckin and Brendle Taylor, Blanchard, OK., Connor and Chloe Turner, Roff, and Paisley, Piper and Phinley Gray, of Ada.
Bearers are Scott Morgan, Danny Cates, Bob Taylor, Matt Turner, Joe Gray and Brandon Morgan. Honorary bearers are Wendall Stewart, Wendell Sherrell and The Adult Men’s Sunday School Class.
