Services for Shirley Ann Townsend, 75, of Del City, formerly of Ada are 11:00 a.m. Monday at the St. James Church of God in Christ in Ada. Elder Alfred E. Douglas will officiate. Burial will follow at Athens Cemetery.
Mrs. Townsend passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 at an Oklahoma City hospital. She was born July 31, 1943 in Ada to Riley Lewis and Lessie B. Franklin Lewis McKinney. She attended Napier Elementary and graduated from Napier High School in Ada.
She married Chauncey D. Townsend in 1963 in Oklahoma City. He preceded her in death November 3, 1999. Mrs. Townsend was a homemaker. She enjoyed shopping, sewing, decorating and witnessing to people. Shirley was saved at Victory Temple Church in Oklahoma City and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. She loved to tell people the goodness and love of the Lord.
Shirley is survived by her children, Antonio Dewayne Townsend, Ladetric Reshawn Essa and Terri Lynn Townsend, all of Oklahoma City; her grandchildren, Terrance Townsend, LaShonda Townsend, Antonia Townsend, Tyral Townsend and Jamella Essa, all of Oklahoma City; her sisters, Mary McFadden of Ada and Vicki Douglas of Oklahoma City; and a brother, Richard Lewis of Pine Bluff, AR.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Riley and Lessie; and brothers, Eddie Lewis, Nelson Lewis, Otis Dale Lewis, Lottie Odesa Lewis and Riley Lewis, Jr.
Bearers will be Marvin Ballard, Cody Lyons, Quincy Lewis, Maurice Lewis, Charles Allen King, Tony Townsend and Michael Harraway. Flower bearers will be Jamella Essa, LaTrina Fisher, Chameka Smith, Sheila King, Krystina Lewis, Shelley Ruble, Hollie Douglas and Tiffany Charles.
