Ramona Juanice Wheeler, 87, formerly of McAlester died Friday, March 4, 2022, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was born May 13, 1934, in McAlester, Oklahoma to Elton and Zella Mae Kennedy. Ramona was married to Steven Wheeler on January 14, 1967, in Moses Lake, Washington. Steve was on active duty in the U.S. Air Force and stationed at Larsen Air Force Base, Moses Lake, Washington where they met and later married. Steve’s military assignments took them and son Allen to Guam, California, Nebraska, Germany, Missouri, and Colorado Springs, Colorado where Steve retired after 30 years active duty with Ramona at his side. Ramona and Steve then moved to Yakima, Washington to be near Ramona’s family in Yakima, Moses Lake, and the Seattle area. After her step-father and mother passed, Steve and Ramona relocated in the summer of 1999 to reside in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Her Aunt Ellen Parks resided with Ramona & Steve until her passing on October 1, 2016. Her Uncle Arthur Parks had died August 7, 2000. Ramona was a homemaker, seamstress, enjoyed making displays for flower club events and always had a flower bed or vegetable garden wherever they lived. Roses were among her favorites but a little prickly! Ramona is survived by her husband Steve of 55 plus years of marriage and son Allen David Smith & his wife DeAnna of Moses Lake, Washington. Ramona is also survived by her three favorite nieces: Sherry, Karen, and Darlene. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her brother Clarence “Kenny” Kennedy & his wife Becky Kennedy, by her sister Violet Smythe & her husband Clarence Smythe; step-father Charles Henle and step-father Glen Muggy. Ramona will be fondly missed by her granddaughter Kira Smith/Kashin Williams and great grandchildren: Khamryn, Monica, Myriaha, Mahailey and Khyrie. And Ramona will be missed by her grandson Ryan David Smith/ LaNette Oliver and great grandchildren: Korey and Anna. Services will be held Monday, March 14, 2022, at the Bishop Chapel of Memories at 2:00 p.m. Rev. J.T. Carnell will officiate at the service. Private burial will be at White Chimney Cemetery near Stuart, Oklahoma.
