Lauren Michelle Kerns, 22, departed this world on Tuesday, March 5th, 2024. Lauren was born on November 13th, 2001 in Rowlett, Texas to David and Lorie Kerns. Moving to Anna, Texas, at age five, Lauren spoke fondly of her youth. Most cherished memories were of time spent with family. All-time favorites were fishing and playing softball with her dad and learning to bake cookies with her mom. In 2020, Lauren graduated from Anna High School. Following graduation, Lauren began EMT training at Emergency Medical Training Services, in Carrollton, Texas. Receiving her national certification (NREMT), Lauren was quickly hired at Emergency Medical Services Authority (EMSA), in June of 2022. After working for EMSA, Lauren continued in the Emergency Medical Services field at Creek County EMS. Throughout her tenure as an EMT, Lauren displayed skill and compassion-positively influencing the lives of many patients. Co-workers jumped at the opportunity to work with Lauren because of her passion, easy-going nature, and wit. Although busy with work, Lauren prioritized time with friends and family. Going to the lake, fishing, and playing softball were some of her most valued past-times. Lauren also had a strong desire to continue her education, beginning at Tulsa Community College with the goal of becoming either a paramedic or a nurse. Most important of all, Lauren treasured time spent with her family-David, Lorie, and siblings Lynnsie, Brandt, and Mathew-at the family pecan farm in Scipio, Oklahoma. Lauren was a ray of sunshine in the lives of each person she befriended. An infectious laugh, positive attitude, and contagious smile (that spread from ear-to-ear) left others the better for knowing her. Fear never stopped Lauren. Living life to the fullest, searching for the next new adventure, all were attributes of Lauren's true character. May Lauren's legacy of service, making a difference, being the light in the room, endure in our hearts. And, when we remember Lauren, we remember a life lived to the very fullest. Lauren is survived by her parents, David and Lorie Kerns; sister and brother-in-law, Lynnsie and husband Andrew; brother and sister-in-law, Brandt and wife Carly; brother, Matthew; nephew, Dallon; nieces, Aleigha, Izabella, and Brooklyn; grandmother, Barbara. Lauren is preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Thurrell Kerns, and maternal Grandfather, Robert Beasley. Viewing will be Sunday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, March 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel with Ricky Kerns and Cameron Box officiating. Burial will follow at Ulan Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Justin Kerns, Cody Cluck, Kayla Stack, Kermit Mullins, Robert Ferrin and Shawn Burch. Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Jimenez and Alek Carson.
