© Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Submitted by: Carol Spear Rice David Gillespie, 77, of McAlester, died on Saturday, February 19, 2022. He was born on December 10, 1944 in Lawton, Oklahoma. David married Carolyn Brown, of Indianola, on May 24, 1965. He was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church, was an Army veteran and retired from Boeing with over 34 years of service. In his community, he served approximately 20 years as a water district board member, was the co-founder of the Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department and served as its President and firefighter for over 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and cooking. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Gillespie; two daughters, Carol Lee and husband Anthony Pennington of Texas, Roxanna Kay and husband Leonard Johnson of Frisco, TX; five grandchildren, Geoffrey Pennington and wife Natalie of Texas, Ryan Pennington and wife Samantha of Illinois, Jordan Johnson, Tristan Johnson and Hayley Johnson of Frisco, TX; four great-grandchildren; a brother Joe Graves and wife Mary of Texas; and three sisters Dorothy Lewis of Texas, Virginia West and husband Kevin of Arkansas and Donna Hendryx Craig and husband Robert of Oklahoma; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bobby Graves. Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 21st at the Ulan Cemetery Pavilion with Anthony Pennington officiating. Burial will follow. Active pallbearers will be Anthony Pennington, Geoffrey Pennington, Jordan Johnson, Leonard "Buster" Johnson, Ryan Pennington and Tristan Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers-in-law, Glen Brown, Odale Brown and Allen Brown and good friend Kevin Marlow.
