Reta Jean (Bowen) Powell, 77, of McAlester, died Monday, April 20, in Tulsa. Reta Jean (Bowen) Powell was born on Dec. 1, 1942 in Scipio to Clarence Tux and Etta Viola Bowen. Reta was the youngest of four children. She married Benny Powell on July 15, 1960. She is survived by her husband, Benny, and their children, Jeannie Powell, Sherrie Effinger and husband Bart, Mickie Foris and husband Chris; also, five grandchildren, Josh Effinger and Amanda, Shiann Johnson and Jake, Tyler Shann and Cherish, Masen Foris, and Dillon Foris; six great grandchildren, Bethany Effinger, Addisyn Effinger, Rayleigh Effinger, Samuel Johnson, Mikah Johnson and Chase Shann; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jim Barnes; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sonny and Larenda Bowen and Joe and Anita Bowen. Reta enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and going bowling and crappie fishing with Benny. However, one of her greatest joys was taking care of her family, mostly through her great cooking. Reta had a rare gift of unconditional love and was a sweet friend and mom to many. She is forever in our hearts.
