Larry Dale Linney, 82, of Tannehill, died Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at a local nursing center. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Bishop Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 20 at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Rev. James Crowson officiating. Interment will be at Tannehill Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Larry was born on February 3, 1932 in Hartshorne to George and Belma (McMullen) Linney. He attended Hartshorne High School and joined the United States Army Reserves. Before Larry earned his high school diploma, he was drafted. He served in Korea and was awarded the Purple Heart. After Larry’s return to Oklahoma, he married Betty Lou Swearingen in 1952 in McAlester. Shortly after marriage, they moved to Dallas where he worked as a machinist for Otis Engineering until his retirement in 1976. The family moved back to McAlester where he was the manager of the machine shop at Jackie Brannon Correctional Facility until his retirement. While his children were young he enjoyed coaching numerous little league teams. After a number of years he continued his service as the baseball field manager. He was active with the American Legion in McAlester for a number of years. After his retirement he and Betty enjoyed camping, crappie fishing and attending bluegrass festivals. He is survived by his daughter: Cheryl Linney & husband, Jerry Smith of Rockwall, Texas; sons: George Linney and wife, Nancy of McAlester, Larry Linney, Jr. and wife, Elise of Olympia, Washington, Aaron Linney of Tannehill; granddaughters: Lauren Bannon of Idaho Springs, Colorado, Peyton Linney of Bache, Madison Linney of Olympia, Washington. Also, grandsons: Morgan Linney of Olympia, Washington, Hayden Linney of Tahlequah; brother: Jerry Linney of Wilburton; sister: Susie Bell of Hennessey; and sister-in-law: Sylvia Compton and husband, L.J. of Tannehill. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Betty in 2010; and 3 sisters: Ann Curliss, Marolyn Fazekas, and Carolyn Bruton. Pallbearers will be Tommy Bruton, Frankie Fazekas, Jonathan Fazekas, Mark Linney, Jay Hodge, and Lonnie Cobble. Honorary pallbearer will be Dick Amos.
