Irene Katherine Jarrett, 84, of McAlester, died Monday, July 14, 2014 at Solara Hospital in Muskogee. The family will greet friends at Bishop Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 at Canadian Shores Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Brent Jarrett and Pastor Fred Morrison officiating. Interment to follow at Tannehill Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Born February 9, 1930 in McAlester, Oklahoma to John and Lela (Jenson) Bernhardt, Irene was a graduate of Indianola High School. She married Clarence “Albert” Jarrett on March 23, 1947 in Spring Hill, Oklahoma. Irene worked as a seamstress and Seampruf for a time, as well as maintained the home and took on additional responsibilities as a minister’s wife. Together, Albert and Irene pastored in Crowder and North McAlester for over 30 years. She was a member of Canadian Shores Free Will Baptist Church and loved to sing and worship at church. Irene also enjoyed crocheting, sewing and arts and crafts. She is survived by a son: Eddie Jarrett and wife, Linda of McAlester; daughter: Elaine Caldwell-Woody and husband, Joe of Thompson Station, TN; grandchildren: Brent Jarrett and wife, Melissa of Indianola, Paul Caldwell and wife, Jennifer of Franklin, TN, Deana Strzelecki and husband, Ted of McAlester, Melinda Liles and husband, James of Memphis, TN, John Jarrett and wife, Amy of McAlester. Also, great-grandchildren: Jaret Baker, Caleb Jarrett, Ryann Baker, Madeline Jarrett, Layne Jarrett, Micah Strzelecki, Haylee Jarrett, McKynlie Caldwell, Jackson Caldwell, Elston Liles, Becket Liles; sister: Dorothy Sparks of McAlester; sisters-in-law: Jean Bernhardt of McAlester, Loretta Bernhardt of McAlester; and brother-in-law: Wayne House of Live Oak, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Lela Bernhardt, her husband: Clarence “Albert” Jarrett on September 14, 2008, a sister: Oleta Sparks Lewis, brothers: Harold Bernhardt and Johnnie Bernhardt, sister-in-law: Vera House, and a son-in-law: Jack Caldwell. Pallbearers will be John Jarrett, Paul Caldwell, Jaret Baker, Caleb Jarrett, Joe Woody, and Ted Strzelecki Honorary pallbearers will be Canadian Shores Free Will Baptist Church Members.
