Monte Hendrix, 64, of McAlester, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at his home. The family will greet friends on Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Service. A Masonic funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 11, 2021 at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Mike Sexton and Mark Halyard. Burial will follow at Tannehill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steven Garcia, Anthony Parish, Jake Tannehill, Mike Sexton, Brian Engleman, and Greg Steidley. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Padgett, Chris Botts, Donnie Higginbotham, Danny Kelley, Ron Gragg, Stephen Gragg, Ronnie Gragg, Nichlos Valenta, Billy Erkin, Lance Hess, Mike Bibee, Brian Lott, Ronnie Coppedge, Patrick Brooks, Randy Lott, Chad Peery, Brent Yates, Joe Manning, Mark McFadden, Paul Grimes, TS Akers, Brett Cable, Jason Evans, Mark Halyard, John King, John Wayne Clagg, members of South McAlester Lodge # 96, members of McAlester Commandry #6, and members of McAlester Scottish Rite. Monte Gene Hendrix was born November 17, 1956 in McAlester to Thomas and Patsy Ruth (Horn) Hendrix. He graduated from McAlester High School in the class of 1975. Monte continued his education at Eastern Oklahoma State College where he graduated in 1977 and later Southeastern Eastern Oklahoma State College in 1978. Monte earned a bachelor degree in Business Administration. He began working as a route drive for United Parcel Services shortly after college and retired after 23 years of service. In 2003, he began working as an explosive operator at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant. He earned another retirement due to his health in 2012. Monte had a rich appreciation of music and enjoyed singing. He was especially proud of being the band manager for his sons, and was their greatest supporter. Early in life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing; as he grew older, so did his love for family and close friends. He also loved target shooting and working on cars. Monte was a very active member of South McAlester Masonic Lodge # 96. Monte is survived by his children: Toni LaDawn Hendrix and Anthony Parish, Michael Hendrix and Kim Lawson-Hart, and James Hendrix; the mother of his children: LaDonna Hendrix, all of McAlester; grandchildren: Luke Bookout, Lane Hendrix, and Zaidyn Hendrix; brother: Dennis Hendrix and wife, Rhonda of Tishomingo; sister-in-law: Stephanie Tannehill and husband, Jerry of McAlester; aunts: Betty Martin and Bessy Ivy; nephews: Jake Tannehill, Jason Tannehill; nieces: Heather Hendrix, Ashley Hendrix, Helen Hendrix, Crystal Clabough, Sherry Clabough, Kelly Clabough, and LaDonna Kay Clabough; cousins: Carol Huff, Robert Hendrix, Brenda Wilson, Tommy Hendrix, James Rodney Hendrix, and Joel Hendrix; special friends: Steven Garcia, Pat Nance, Tracey Manos, Johnny Larison, and Carl Finemore; and numerous other family members. Monte was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Patsy Hendrix; grandparents: Clarence and Doris Horn, Crayton and Myrtle Hendrix; uncles: James Hendrix and Bob Hendrix; and aunts: Lucille Briggs and Ruth Logsdon.
