Curtis "C.J." James Whorton, 80, of Savanna, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at the Chaney Harkins Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2024 at the Savanna Cemetery with Reverend Mitch Arteberry officiating. The burial will follow. Pallbearers will be Corey Vaughn, Marshall Doig, Hunter Bogle, Dalton Hopkins, Mike Turner, William Cathey and Ethan Whorton. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Evans, Harold Cathey, and Stuart Vaughn. C.J. was born June 21, 1944 to John L. Whorton and Bertha Mae (Wyatt) Whorton in Pittsburg, Oklahoma. C.J. married Carol Ann Keneda in June of 1968 in Lubbock, Texas. C.J.'s professional life was marked by his dedication to Whorton Construction in Lubbock, Texas, where he applied his skills and work ethic to contribute to the growth and development of the community. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his involvement in various associations, where he was known for his friendly demeanor and willingness to lend a helping hand. Beyond his professional achievements, C.J. was a man of many interests. He was an avid bingo player, a frequent visitor to casinos, and an enthusiast of fishing and camping and his love for garage selling was well-known. C.J. was also known as a "Lady's Man," a title that spoke to his charm and his ability to make friends wherever he went. C.J. is survived by his children, Kim Cathey and husband, Harold, Chris Whorton and wife, Michelle, Joey Whorton, and Rhonda Vaughn and husband, Stuart; grandchildren, Jennifer Whitten and husband, Jared, Chelsea Davis and husband, Zach, Madison Black and husband, Woodrow, Abigail Whorton and husband, Cabe, Levi Mason, Lexi Choate and husband, Tanner, Ethan Whorton and wife, Madison, Brittni Doig and husband, Marshall, Ashley Kennon and husband, Christopher, Haley Vaughn and husband, Hunter, Corey Vaughn and wife, Morgan, Hunter McCarn and Cheyene McCarn; great grandchildren, Tyleigh, Jensyn, Kinsley, Paelyn, Dalton, Ayden, Miera, Bentley, Oaklynn, Everly Jane, Kadem, Lettie Ann and Axton; special friends, Marvin Harper, Faye and Jimmy Evans, Peggy Armstrong and Jeannie Powell; and nurse and special friend, Destiny Taylor. C.J. is preceded in death by his parents, John L. Whorton and Bertha Mae (Wyatt) Whorton; his wife Carol Ann (Keneda) Whorton; and his siblings, Luther, Toad, Buddy, Roy, Wayne and Dorthy.
