Josie Ruth (Cotney) Kardokus, 72, of McAlester, died Thursday, October 15, 2020 in McAlester at her residence. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Bishop Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2020 at Calvary Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Chip Lott. Burial will follow at Savanna Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Austin Shiew, Miguel Marco, Dave Verner, Mike Verner, Shannon Eldred, Rex Hatridge, Roy Blanks, and Steve Verner. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Verner, James Lodes, D.R. Jenson, Don Hass, David Spears, Jaxson Quintero, and Branden Bonham. Josie was born on October 29, 1947 in McAlester to Lonnie and Ruth (Brooks) Cotney. She attended Savanna School. Josie worked in the feed and grain / agriculture businesses for over 40 years. The last 21 years she worked in sales for Big V Feeds. Josie was an avid birdwatcher and enjoyed crappie fishing. She loved to play spades. Josie especially loved being with her family. She was preceded in death by her father: Lonnie Cotney; mother: Ruth Cotney-Harner; brother: Everett Cotney; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Jean Newman and husband, Wayne, Shirley Cole and husband, Arla. Josie is survived by her daughter: Donna Shiew of the home; nephew that she raised as a son: John Cunningham and wife, Loretta of Checotah; grandchildren: Austin Shiew and wife, Lindsey, Dacey Quintero and husband, Jayson, all of McAlester, Emily Shiew of the home; great-grandchildren: Brooke Marco, Miguel Marco, Jaxson Quintero, Caydence Quintero, all of McAlester, Ava Guinn of Keys; special friend and grandchildren's father: Jimmy Shiew; special nephews: Steve Armstrong, Don Armstrong, Richard Armstrong, Richard Swearengin, Robert Swearengin, Tim Swearengin; and numerous other family members and friends.
