Edith Mae (Dobbs) Chitwood, 97, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Mitchell Manor in McAlester. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Savanna Cemetery pavilion officiated by Rev. Paul Brady. Burial will follow. Pallbearers will be Robert Short, Jefferey Short, Stephen Hodgeson, Russell Wingo, Kellen Hodgeson, Ryan Sanders, Chris Bigelow, and Keith Bigelow. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Short, David Dobbs, Tyler Bigelow, Daniel Verdadero, Robert McFerran, Jr, Robert Short, II, and Bryan Fitzgerald. Edith Mae was born to Andrew Jackson and Ruby (Waller) Dobbs in Darwin, Oklahoma on September 12, 1924. She grew up attending Sugarloaf Elementary School and graduated from Antlers High School. Edith married Kenneth Wayne Chitwood in November of 1954 in Shamrock, Texas. She was an active member and Sunday school teacher of Northgate Baptist Church. She loved playing many board games, playing the piano, and was an outstanding Tupperware sales person. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents: Andrew Jackson Dobbs and Ruby (Waller) Dobbs; husband: Kenneth W. Chitwood; daughter: Carolyn Wright; sons: Phillip Hodgeson, Randy Wilson; grandsons: John W. Short, Jessie Wilson; granddaughter: Teia Conant; brothers: Clyde Dobbs, Eugene Dobbs, Ray Dobbs, Donald Dobbs, Jerry Dobbs; and sisters: Fern Sloan and Andra Collier. Edith is survived by her daughter, Sue Ann Bigelow of McAlester; daughters-in-law: Patty Hodgeson of Savanna, Gina Wilson of Savanna; grandchildren: Robert A. Short, Lisa D. McFerran, Jeffrey Short and wife, Stacy, Stephen Hodgeson, Russell Wingo, Pam Keller and husband, Christopher, Kellen Hodgeson, Ryan Sanders and wife, Amber, Rebecca Stonecipher, Amy Thornburg and husband, Brandon, Chris Bigelow and wife, Patra, Keith Bigelow and wife, Helen; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters: Juanita Danberger, Fay Zeman, both of Bastrop, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.|Savanna Cemetery Page| |Pittsburg County Cemetery Page| |Home| This site may be freely linked, but not duplicated in any way without consent.
