Arvel "Slick" J. Johnson of McAlester, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021 in McAlester. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Pryor Cemetery in Stuart, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Jody Halliburton, Andy Halliburton, William Robertson, Jessie Robertson, David Robertson, and Richard Ortiz. Arvel was born on April 8, 1935 in Stuart, Oklahoma to Tom Johnson and Geneva (Howell) Johnson. He married Sue Rainwater in March of 1976 in McAlester. Arvel worked his entire life as a cement finisher. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, his horses and his coon dogs. He is survived by his wife: Sue Johnson of McAlester; his daughter: Ronda Ortiz and husband, Richard of Owasso; his granddaughter: Ryla Phillips and husband, Alex of Owasso; his sister: Catherine Halliburton; four great grandchildren: Hunter Alexander-Ortiz, Bryce Alexander-Ortiz, Ryder Adams-Phillips, and Bentley Adams-Phillips; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends. Arvel is preceded in death by his parents: Tom and Geneva Johnson; his daughter: Pamela (Johnson) Boydstun; his grandson: Rance Ortiz; and brothers and sisters: Troy Johnson, Alta Workman, Foy Johnson, Roy Johnson, Coy Lands, Raye Wright, Rachel Pearcy, Imogene Gearhardt, and Wanda Mooney.
