Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2023 at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Rev. J.T. Carnell and the Very Rev. Jovita Okonkwo. Burial will follow at Pryor Cemetery, Stuart. Pallbearers will be, Rev. J.T. Carnell, Stephen Harkins, Robert Glanville, Cade Harkins, Bret Rivas, Mike Knight, Rhyln Stephens and Jody Greene. Honorary pallbearers, Dianne Carnell, Rhonda Bush, Ruth Harkins, Angela Quinlan, Disney Cain, Charles Wilson, Dr. Brian Chadsey, Brian Engleman, Bennie Little, Dee Smart, Faye Smart and Kevin Smart. Justin was blessed with a family who loved him greatly. He was preceded in death by his father Don C. Horne; paternal grandparents, Eugene and Bethel (Gilliam) Horne; maternal grandparents, Thomas and Lillian (Alexander) Caplinger; his uncle, Richard Caplinger; and his cousin, Chris Herdman; uncle and aunt, Jack and Marie Horne. He is survived by his mother, Virginia Horne of Ashland; his aunt, Mary Herdman; cousin, Ramona Herdman, both of Jamestown, Ohio; aunt, Lakie Gillespie of McAlester; cousins, Mark and Natalie Horne of South Carolina, Lisa and Roger Stevens of South Carolina; his two beloved cats, Louie and Grizelda; dear friends, Charles and Charlotte Wilson of McAlester, Dee and Faye Smart of Haywood; their children, Kevin, Melanie, Christie, and Farrell, and many others among his family and friend circles. An accomplished scholar, Justin graduated from McAlester High School in 1995 and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and Theatre from East Central University, Ada, in 1999. His academic journey continued as he earned a second Bachelor of Arts degree with university scholastic honors in visual arts from East Central University. Justin furthered his education by completing a Masters of Fine Arts in Production Technology and Management in 2004 from the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Justin's professional journey began at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as an assistant technical director. His talent and drive led him to work later as the technical director for Denton Community Theatre in Denton, Texas. In his most recent role at Harkins and Bishop Funeral Service, he served as Operations Manager and Technical Director. He routinely demonstrated his creative and innovative skills in overseeing the technical aspects and human resources for Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory, Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home, and Jones-Harkins Funeral Home. Justin's life was peppered with diverse interests that showcased his vibrant character. He had a deep regard for intellectual pursuits, including reading and working with computers. A television and film buff, he found pleasure in music and crafting unique jewelry pieces. His Scottish heritage was a source of pride, and he attended the Tulsa Scot Fest regularly. His travels to Scotland were among the highlights of his life. Above all, his kindness shined through his love for animals, especially his cats, Louie and Grizelda. His personality traits were at once dynamic and effervescent - he was creative, intelligent, and thoughtful. Described by his loved ones as a tireless worker and a perfectionist, Justin's kind, gentle, generous nature infused with his innate sense of humor touched all who had the fortune to cross paths with him. His nurturing protection extended to all life forms, big and small. He was a loyal friend and a loving son. Justin was a man of deep faith and his spirit continues to live in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be missed but never forgotten. His life story serves as a testament to a unique individual who graced this world with his presence. The world has lost a splendid soul in Justin, but his memory will remain etched in the hearts of those who loved him.
