Don was born to Theodore and Tennessee Louise "Tennie" (Southern) Dunn on December 4, 1931 in Stuart. He was a proud graduate of Ashland High School, class of 1950. Shortly after graduation, he married the love of his life, Evelyn Cargill, on September 18, 1950, in McAlester. Don furthered his education at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, setting the stage for a successful career.
Don's career was as diverse as it was fulfilling. He served his country valiantly in the U.S. Navy for 33 months during the Korean War, including time on the USS Hancock Aircraft Carrier (CVA19). After his military service, Don owned and operated a TV repair shop in Ashland in the mid-1950s. His love for electronics led him to a 36-year career as an Electronics Technician Supervisor for McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, from which he retired in 1987.
He enjoyed repairing electronics, especially radios and televisions, a hobby that stemmed from his work history. He was also a devoted member of the McAlester First Church of the Nazarene, where he found spiritual fulfillment and a sense of community.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Tennie Dunn; daughters, Sharon Kaye Scrivner; Donita Rollings; son-in-law, Danny Scrivner; sister, Freda Mae Burns; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Burns and Floyd Orr; and a niece, Pamela Burns.
His memory will be cherished by his surviving family members, including his wife, Evelyn Dunn; grandchildren, Kari Noggle and husband, Rick of Ashland, Kristi Hall and husband, Gene of Kiowa, Angelique Sizemore of McAlester, Brian Scrivner and wife, Jennifer of Ashland, Chris Scrivner and wife, Carrie of Hugo; 13 great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Ryan, Kennedy, Kindred, Kimberlyn, Kade, Savannah, Cody, Allie, Kinsley, Konner, Kaston, Koda; great-great-grandson, Jude Rose; sister, Linda Orr of McAlester; brother-in-law, Harvey Cargill of California; nephews, Jeremy Orr of McAlester, Larry Burns and wife, Martha of Ada; niece, Lynette Holding and husband, Patrick of Blanchard; and numerous other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
His life was a testament to his dedication to his church, family, his work, and his country. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Don's life was a journey of meaningful moments, of love shared, and of a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed.
