Freda Lavon Bernard passed away peacefully on February 3rd, 2024, at her home in McAlester, Oklahoma. Born on February 26, 1929, in Stuart, Oklahoma, her 94 years of life were a testament to the joy and care she nurtured within her family and community. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home Chapel. A Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Pryor Cemetery with Rodney Briggs officiating. The burial will follow. Her legacy is cherished by her husband, Leon Bernard, her son Steve Bernard and his wife Robbie, her daughter Sandra Younger and husband Joe, her granddaughter Summer Westbrook, and grandsons Jim Westbrook and Ryan Bernard. Freda rejoins her parents, James and Rozetta Crosthwait, her brother Jim Crosthwait and sisters Willa Cliftt and Joy Berry, who all paved the way before her. Freda's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and joy for life. An avid gardener, her flowers were a reflection of her inner beauty. Her voice graced the church choir, and her dedication to doing the Lord's work was unshakeable. Family was the compass that guided her, and her travels only amplified her appreciation for the loved ones who were her world. Freda will always be remembered as the embodiment of all that is loving and kind, a true matriarch whose warmth will forever grace the hearts of those she touched.
