Belva Lanetta White, 65, of McAlester, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023 at the Chaney Harkins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Anthony Washington officiating. The committal service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2023 at Oak Hill Cemetery, McAlester, Oklahoma. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Johnny Thierry, Cletis Lowe, Jr., Lester Thomspon, Bill Thompson, Louis McConnell and, David Spears. Flower Bearers will be: Shawnda Woodard, Coluah Watts, Ensie Drumgo, Greta Knighton and, Kelli Spears. Belva Lanetta White, a loving, loyal, and intelligent woman, was born on December 14, 1957 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and passed away on June 24, 2023 in McAlester, Oklahoma. Born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Belva's roots are in Boynton, Oklahoma where she was raised by her loving parents, Thello White and Cardelia (Brown) White. She graduated from Boynton High School with the Class of 1976. Belva earned her Associate's degree from Connors State College in 1978, her Bachelors of Education in Special Education and Speech Pathology from Northeastern State University in 1984, and her Master's Degree in Education from Northeastern State University in 1987–all while raising two children. Belva's career choices reflected her dedication to serving others. She worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor, a substance abuse counselor for women with children, she worked at Carl Albert Mental Health where she provided case management services and development treatment plans for individuals dealing with mental health crises. For more than two decades, she worked at The Oaks Rehabilitation Services Center where she served as a case manager, developed treatment plans, and provided individual and group counseling for those suffering from addiction. In the course of her decades of work, Belva had a positive impact on thousands of Oklahoma families. Known for her angelic voice, Belva served in the choir at Cherryville Baptist Church in Boynton as well churches in Muskogee and McAlester. Belva's musical talents extended to playing the piano, a task she enjoyed. Belva delighted audiences with her voice, putting on concerts in McAlester as well as singing in community choirs. Belva's love for her family was boundless, and she is survived by her two children, Corena White of McAlester, and Mario White of Madison, Wisconsin; her grandson, Rodrick White of McAlester; her sister, Aretha White of Okmulgee; nieces and nephews, Roshelle White of Oklahoma City, LaKnetta White of Okmulgee, and Marquis White and Oni Barnes of Tulsa; great-nieces and nephews, Tremayne White, Damian White, Lindsey Johnson, McKenna Barnes, and Cayden Barnes; special aunts and uncles, Barbara Thompson and husband, Bill of Boynton, and Sharon Thiery and husband, Johnny of Tulsa; special grandson: Jackson Wimsett; best friend: Connie Windham; friend: Cletis Lowe, Jr.; and numerous other family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory. Belva joins her parents: Thello White and Cardelia (Brown) White; her brother: Thello White, Jr.; and best friend: Edlena Helem. Her loving nature, keen intelligence, and spirited personality inspired those around her to believe in themselves and to pursue their dreams with passion and determination. Belva's legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched, both personally and professionally. As we remember and celebrate the life of Belva Lanetta White, let us be inspired by her unwavering dedication to helping others, her boundless love for her family, and her ability to bring out the best in everyone she encountered. May her memory serve as a reminder to us all of the power of love, compassion, and determination in the face of adversity.
