Nettie Florence (Evans) Tipps, 94, of McAlester, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Bishop Chapel of Memories, officiated by Mr. Red Coleman. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester. Pallbearers will be Tracy Howard, Brett Cable, Devon Chen, and Joe Nickel. Florence was born on October 30, 1931, in Ravia, Oklahoma, one of twelve children born to William Henry and Erma Lucretia (Moore) Evans. She was raised in Ravia, where she graduated from Ravia High School, and later attended Murray State College in Tishomingo. On November 25, 1949, Florence married the love of her life, Charles Herman Tipps, in Gainesville, Texas. They shared over 63 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2013. Together, they built a life across several communities, living in Tishomingo, Comanche, Duncan, and Odessa, Texas, before returning to Oklahoma, where they lived in Ada and eventually settled in McAlester. Florence was a dedicated partner in both life and business, working alongside Charles in their flooring store. In the 1980's, she fulfilled her entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating her own carpet and furniture store in McAlester for several years before retiring. She was a longtime and faithful member of the Main and Oklahoma Church of Christ. Florence found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. She loved sewing and quilting, creating pieces that will be cherished by her family for years to come. She also enjoyed fishing and treasured the time spent on occasional golf outings with her husband, Charles. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry Evans and Erma Lucretia Evans Coffman; her beloved husband, Charles Herman Tipps; her brothers, Jay Evans, John Evans, Everett Evans, W.T. "Pete" Evans, Luke Evans, and Arthur Evans; and her sister, Jean Tipps. Florence is lovingly remembered by her son, Charley Ray Tipps and wife Ruth; her daughter, Jeneice Cable and husband Lowell "Buddy" Cable, Jr.; her grandchildren, Brett Cable and wife Amy, Amy Howard and husband Tracy, Rebecca Brackett and husband Seth, Kendra Tipps, Devon Chen, and Jia Sing Chen; and her great-grandchildren, Madeleine Cable, Cecily Cable, Callum Cable, Joseph Nickel, Jayce Howard, Seth Tipps, Shawn Tipps, Joy Tipps, Nathan Tipps, Johnathan Tipps, and Suzanne Florence Tipps. Great-great grandchildren, Spencer Nickel and Carter Joe Nickel. She is also survived by her sisters, Belle Perteet, Sue James and husband Randy; her brothers, Coy Evans and wife, Brenda, Paul Evans and wife Jackie; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Florence will be remembered for her strong work ethic, her devotion to her family, and the quiet kindness she shared with everyone who knew her.
