Velba Murdaugh, 85, of McAlester, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at her home. Velba was born on September 11, 1939 in Scipio, Oklahoma to Richard O. and Inez (Jones) Treece. She attended 12 years in McAlester Public Schools, graduating in 1957. She married Bill Murdaugh on June 29, 1957 in McAlester. They had four children, Tammy, Rocky, Dana and Dusty. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She retired from the Department of Human Services (DHS) in 1998. After retirement, she began a new career buying and selling antiques, eventually owning an antique mall, Main Street Junction Antiques for 20 years. She and Bill enjoyed taking buying trips and seeing new country and they continued this until 2016 when they sold the mall. She is survived by her children, Tammy (Don) Gibbs of McAlester, OK, Rocky (Terri) Murdaugh of Indianola, OK, Dana (Jason) Dugan of Talihina, OK, and Dusty (Twylah) Murdaugh of Indianola, OK; grandchildren, Cade (Amanda) Gibbs, Kaycee Gibbs, Rocky Murdaugh Jr., Draysen Murdaugh, Dane (Katie) Burnett, William Lykins, Christian Mathis, Ray Mathis, Kylah (Ian) Lyons, Phillip Joyce, Austin Dugan, Eden Hyden, Elton Hyden, Ethan Hyden and Eli Harris; great-grandchildren, Bladen Murdaugh, Rhett Burnett, Marlee Gibbs, Marlo Gibbs, Bru Murdaugh and Axel Mathis; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Murdaugh; parents and two sisters, Zoe Duran and Yvonne Wilkins. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester. Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in McAlester. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cade Gibbs, Rocky Murdaugh, Jr., Draysen Murdaugh, Dane Burnett, William Lykins, Christian Mathis, Ray Mathis, Phillip Joyce and Austin Dugan.
