Leon Walter McClendon, 85, of Kiowa, died Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Mary Hurley Hospital in Coalgate. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 23 at Bishop Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 24 at the Kiowa School Auditorium with Rev. Clarence Brinkley, Rev. Brent Davis, Rev. James Crowson, and Dr. Robin Lacy officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Leon was born March 5, 1930 in Oklahoma City to Walter Jacob and Marie (Yoast) McClendon. He was a graduate from Limestone Gap High School in 1948. He was a life-time resident of Kiowa. He married Helen Sexton on June 20, 1950 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He was a calf roper and rancher and retired from the Army Ammunition Plant in 1992. He had a true love for family, friends and an amazing passion for horses, especially a good roping horse. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kiowa. He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Helen McClendon of the home; daughters: Carolyn Clifton and husband, Joe of Kiowa, Marilyn Wilson and husband, Joe of Stillwater; son: Don McClendon of Carrollton, Texas; grandsons: Tyler Clifton and wife, Chris of Broken Arrow, Zachary Wilson of Stillwater, Alex Wilson and wife, Katy of Broken Arrow, Caleb McClendon of Carrollton, Texas, Stephen Nash and wife, Jenna of San Antonio, Texas. Also, great-grandsons: Tavish Clifton of Broken Arrow, Jayden Clifton of Broken Arrow, Gage Nash of San Antonio; brother: Ralph McClendon and wife, Marion of Kiowa; sister: Lucille Sorrels and husband, Jr. of Kiowa; brother-in-law: Wayne Sexton and wife, Joyce of Kiowa; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter Jacob and Marie (Yoast) McClendon, a brother: Clyde McClendon, grandsons: Jamin McClendon Clifton and Justin Leon McClendon, and his father- and mother-in-law: Merle and Ruby Sexton. Pallbearers will be Tyler Clifton, Zachary Wilson, Alex Wilson, Caleb McClendon, Stephen Nash, and David McClendon. Honorary pallbearers Jerry Johnston, Rex Hatridge, Mike Carter, Buzz Henry, Donnie Echelle, Garner Boyd, Bear Gilliam, Lee Sartor, Charles Gibbs, Jim Rice, Boyd Johnston, Greg Sexton, Mike Sexton, Billy Lee Hamilton, Bradley Hamilton, Clark Rhyne, Charlie Rowland, Bill Hensley, Paul Davis, Jimmy Smith, John Paul Davis, Larry Sorrels, Jerry Sorrels, Mike Yoast, Doyle Mitchell, Millard Sweetin, Todd Stone, Garret Rose, Coy Trammell, Dr. Paul LeDoux, Dr. Richard Helton, Bill Morgan, and Bill Donaldson.
