Jan (Stockton) Grubbs, 84 of McAlester died in McAlester on June 30, 2024. A private burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church 222 E. Washington Ave. McAlester, OK 74501 officiated by Rev. Scott Vandenheuvel and Pastor Jeannie Dancer. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, McAlester Public Library or a charity of your choice. Jan was born to Ralph H. and Thelma A. (Van Horn) Stockton on May 22, 1940 in Norfolk, Virginia. She graduated from McAlester High School with the class of 1958 and then went on to Oklahoma State University. She married L. R. "Jerry" Grubbs on November 26, 1961 in McAlester. They were married for 56 years before his death on January 31, 2018. They moved numerous times as Jerry began working in the pharmaceutical industry. Their last move was to the St. Petersburg, Florida area where Jerry accepted the position of Division Manager of Bristol Myers-Squibb. While there Jan went to work at the Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida, first as Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Human Resources and went on to become the Senior Care Advisor and Resource Coordinator for the hospital's Resource Place. After Jerry's retirement in 1994 they moved back to McAlester where Jan became involved with the General Federated Women's Club, serving as the first director of Casual Gourmet, then President of GFWC and later Director of the Literary Guild. Jan served as Director of the McAlester Library Board several times, served as treasurer of the Old McAlester High School Board and the Board of Directors for Burgundy Place. She served as both an Elder and Deacon and Chairman of the Worship Committee for many years at First Presbyterian Church and also volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels for several years. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph H. and Thelma A. Stockton; beloved husband, Jerry Grubbs; sister, Shannon Lee Tolbert and her precious dog, Willow. She is survived by her son, Ross Grubbs and wife, Melanie of Ft. Worth; grandson, Will Grubbs; nephew, Chris Tolbert and niece, Leslie Tolbert; sister-in-law, Susan Schied and husband, Glen of Tulsa, nephew, Matt Schied; niece, Paige Bergen and husband, Brandon and their children Isaac and Matthew all of Tulsa and several cousins and friends all across the country.
