Lorena Mae Fisher, a cherished matriarch, caring friend, and devout community member, passed away peacefully in her hometown of McAlester, OK, on July 21, 2024. Born on December 2, 1930, in McAlester to Elvis and Ethel Lackey, Lorena's life was one marked by love, dedication, and faith.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Honorary Pallbearers are, David Welch, Luke Hagman, Samuel Gray, Jason Gray, Cooper Pinley, Brandon Pinley, Garrett Pinley, Chris Gray, and Zachary Higgins.
On December 4, 1948 Lorena married the love of her life, Sam Fisher, in Sherman, TX, and together they built a life filled with joy and family. She found solace and strength in her deep faith, having been a devoted member of Victory Park Church since 1953. It was here where she served others selflessly, extending her care beyond her family to those in need through the church's soup kitchen. Lorena's daily life was enriched by friendships and care, especially with her aide Jennifer Heathcock, whose companionship she treasured deeply. She warmly embraced her time spent in the company of others, and her legacy of kindness will endure through all those she touched.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Deborah Ann Gray and husband Don of Del Rose, TN, Karen Gail Fisher of McAlester, Judith Kay Brewster-Hagman and husband, Gus of Wilburton, and Jan Denise Ardese of McAlester; her grandchildren, Christopher, Jason, Samuel, Zachary, Karen Jo, Bryan, Samantha, David, Tori, and Luke; 14 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Shirley Schlesinger of California; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sam, her parents, Elvis and Ethel Lackey and siblings Gene, Bill, Sandy, and Vaughn; Lorena's legacy is one of unwavering love and faith. Those who knew her will remember her for her steadfast presence in their lives, her tireless commitment to her church, and the warmth and wisdom she shared so generously.
