Marvin Leroy (Joe) Faulkenberry, Sr, 79, of McAlester, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at a local nursing home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 6 at Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Stacy and Rev. Jamie Kirkpatrick officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Marvin Leroy (Joe) Faulkenberry was born June 3, 1935 in Howe, Oklahoma to Jefferson Jasper and Effie Thelma (Turner) Faulkenberry. Joe grew up and graduated high school in Howe. He furthered his education by attending Southeastern Oklahoma State University where he completed a bachelor’s degree. Joe was married to Barbara Jean Carr on August 12, 1954 in McAlester where they established their home. To this union, two sons, Marvin, Jr. and Mark, were born. Barbara preceded Joe in death on December 22, 1989. Marvin later married Thelma (Ballard) Smedley on February 14, 1996 in Paris, Texas and they made their home in McAlester. Joe worked as a principal in the 1960s and then as an automobile dealer. He was the first to open a Mazda dealership in McAlester and later enjoyed running the consignment auction on Hwy 270 in Alderson. Joe is survived by his wife: Thelma (Ballard) Smedley Faulkenberry of the home; sons: Marvin Leroy Faulkenberry, Jr. and wife, Karen of McAlester, Lloyd Mark Faulkenberry and wife, Yvonne of Mustang, grandchildren: Haley Blood and husband, Jeff of Oklahoma City, Lela Faulkenberry of Oklahoma City, Cody Ray Faulkenberry of Stillwater, Hannah Jean Faulkenberry of Stillwater. Also, step-children: Melissa Giacomo and husband, Brian of McAlester, Sherry White of McAlester, William Smedley and wife, Diana of McAlester, Oakie Dale Smedley of McAlester; sister: Virginia Leiper of Spiro; brother: Eulice (Dude) Faulkenberry and wife, Judith of Jenks. He is also survived by 13 step-grandchildren, 8 step-great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jefferson Jasper Faulkenberry and Effie Thelma (Turner) Faulkenberry; his first wife of 35 years: Barbara Jean (Carr) Faulkenberry; and siblings: Thelma Brown, Imogene Jones, Hazel Duncan, Leona Dolph, William (Bud) Faulkenberry, Irene Stacy, Harold (Manzo) Faulkenberry, and Harland (Chuck) Faulkenberry. Pallbearers will be Cody Faulkenberry, Jeff Faulkenberry, Dean Faulkenberry, Dwight Duncan, Larry Stacy, David Faulkenberry, and Bobby Faulkenberry. Honorary pallbearers will be Hayden Baker and H.L. Johnson, Jr.
