James (Jimmy) Johnson Ervin, 39, died Sunday, March 1, 2015 in his home in McAlester. A graveside service is set for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3 at Oak Hill Cemetery with Mother Stephanie Swinnea officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Home. Born in McAlester on Fathers Day, June 15, 1975, Jimmy was the son of Sharon (Thetford) Ervin and William Joseph Ervin, Sr. Jimmy graduated from McAlester High School in 1993. He was an Eagle Scout and received the Order of the Arrow in scouting as a member of Scout Troop No. 2, McAlester. He played football and wrestled for the McAlester Buffaloes. He attended Tulsa Junior College and St. Gregorys University before obtaining his CLEET Certification as a licensed armed security officer. He lived and worked in Tulsa for 18 years before he became ill and returned to his family home in McAlester. Jimmy is survived by his parents: Sharon and Bill Ervin of the home; sisters: Brandi Ervin Long and husband, Mark of Norman and Cassie Ervin Cooper and husband, Shane of McAlester; brother: William Joseph (Joe) Ervin, Jr. and wife, Toni of McAlester. Also, godmother: Margaret Olinger of McAlester; godfather: Paul T. (Bucko) Olinger of Rogers AR; nieces: Kallie and Quincy Schoggins and Molly, Abby, and Emma Ervin, all of McAlester; nephews: Phillip and Alex Long of Norman, Jack Ervin, William Cooper, and Kandon Johnson, all of McAlester. And, aunts: Frannie Claxton of Tulsa and Nancy Hale of Dallas; uncles: Bill Thetford of Oklahoma City, Clint Thetford of Los Angeles, Larry Thetford of Broken Arrow, and Joe Hager of Dallas. Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents: Katherine (Johnson) Ervin and Rogers C. Ervin, Francis Thetford, Florine (Johnson Thetford) Hager; and godfather: Paul T. (Oley) Olinger.
