Isaiah W. (Ike) Bandy, Jr, 76, of McAlester, died Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at McAlester Regional Health Center. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 14 at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Pastor Gene Hankins officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Robert B. Thomas, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1098 Honor Guard. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service. Ike was born April 3, 1938 in Afton, Oklahoma, the third of six children to Isaiah W. Bandy, Sr. and Oletha (Hood) Bandy. He grew up in Afton and attended and graduated from Afton High School in 1956. Ike excelled in playing football for the Afton Eagles, being named the Team Captain his senior year. He enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduation and served four years, mostly in the Marine Air Wing as a radar tech and bombing tech. Following his honorable discharge, Ike was hired at the Burroughs Corp in Tulsa. He was transferred to McAlester where he lived and worked for 30 years. He and Myrtle O. (Babs) Curliss were married June 19, 1971 in McAlester and lived south of Krebs, moving later to the Shady Grove area where they ranched and baled a lot of hay. They raised Babs two children: Rob and Kim, and later two grandchildren: Amber and Diamond. Ike was a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League, serving many years as the Detachment Chaplain. He was also a proud lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. After retirement, Ike was elected Chairman of the Indianola Senior Center where he served since 1996 making many friends and a few enemies along the way. Ike was raised in the Assembly of God Church and was saved and baptized in Horse Creek at the age of 12. After marrying Babs, Ike joined the Central Christian Church in McAlester. He lived a long and productive life. He is survived by his grandchildren: Amber Owens and husband, Gene of McAlester, Diamond Edge of McAlester; great-grandchildren: Austin Owens of McAlester, Logan Owens of McAlester, Tucker Owens of McAlester, Starla Edge of McAlester; siblings: Georgia Gay Shoemaker of Tulsa, Merlene Pence of Bristow , Jasper Isaac “Bud” Bandy and wife, Mary of Afton, William Ray Bandy and wife, Dixie of Ft. Gibson, Raymond Lee Bandy and wife, Nancy of Ft. Gibson; and by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife: Myrtle O. (Babs) Bandy on December 31, 2003, his children: Rob Field and Kim Edge, parents: Isaiah W. Bandy, Sr. and Oletha (Hood) Bandy, paternal grandparents: George and Martha Bandy, and maternal grandparents: Radford and Olive Hood. Pallbearers will be David Bandy, Eddie Surginer, Cameron Fields, Dennis Edge, Michael Edge, Michael Todd, Jacob Yoder, and Cale Wells. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Indianola Senior Center and the U.S. Marine Corps.
