Violet (Thomas) Ambrose, 74, of McAlester, died Wednesday at her home Born April 28, 1922 in Tucumcari, N.M., she was the daughter of Buron and Violet Phillips Thomas. She came to McAlester as a child with her family and attended McAlester schools, graduating from McAlester High School. She attended Eastern College in Wilburton for a while and married William R. Ambrose on June 10, 1945 in McAlester. They lived in New Mexico, California and Texas before returning to McAlester in 1959. She worked at the U. S. Naval Ammunition Depot for a while and at Hunt's Department Store and also managed the S & H Greenstamp Store for a few years. She was a member of McAlester Christ United Methodist Church. Survivors include a brother and sister in law, B. W. Jr. and Kathryn Thomas of McAlester; a niece and her husband, Lyn and Bill Salyer of McAlester; two nephews and their wives, Bill and Joyce Thomas of Shady Point, and Tom and Sheila Thomas of McAlester; and an uncle and aunt, Reed and Bell Thomas, DeQueen, Ark. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Dale Sanders officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
