Bobby Gene Tharpe, Jr., 60, went to meet his Heavenly Father on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at his home. He was born to Bobby Tharpe, Sr. and the late Ruby Diane (Warren) Tharpe on November 23, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised in Paris, TN. Bobby received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. He moved to McAlester in 1981 and married Mary Martin in 1982. Bobby began as an Insurance agent in McAlester area and later began his career at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in 1984 as a Correctional Officer and was currently working as a Senior Case Manager. He was a member of the Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church. However, he began his Christian walk at Quinn Chapel AME Church in Paris, TN. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 34 years, Mary Tharpe of the home; son, Marcus Tharpe of the home; daughters, Whitney Tharpe of Bixby and Alisha Tharpe-Baskerville of Jackson, TN; grandchildren, Jherney, Warren, Izaiah, Savion and Caysen; great granddaughter, Londyn; father, Bobby Tharpe, Sr. and siblings all of Chicago, Illinois; aunts, Nellie Warren Bass of Paris, TN and Barbara Williams of CA; uncle, James Warren of Champaign, Illinois and other family and friends and Special Friends at Oklahoma State Penitentiary and Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church. Bobby was preceded in death by his son, Maurice Tharpe; mother, Ruby (Warren) Tharpe; grandson, Shylan Bryson-Tharpe; uncles, Robert Palmer and Samuel Warren; grandparents, Sam and Nellie Warren. The family will greet friends on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Anthony Washington officiating. Interment will follow at North Town Cemetery, McAlester, OK.
