Richard L. Sudduth, 87, went to his Heavenly home on Monday, August 28, 2023 in McAlester, Oklahoma, at a local nursing home. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, September 1, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at the North Town Church of Christ, McAlester, with Randy Walters, officiating. Military honors will be provided and arrangements made by Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Creede Tribbey, Oben Weeks, Greg Hubbard, Danny Morgan, Dean Wood, Randy Hughes and men of the Northtown Church of Christ. Richard was born to Alton and Retta Sudduth on April 5, 1936, in Perryton, Texas. He received his GED and then was awarded an Associate's Degree in small engine repair from Eastern Oklahoma State College. Richard married Mary Johnson on January 23, 1956 in Clovis, NM while he was serving in the Airforce. They loved to travel, shared a love of history, and eventually moved to Bache, OK where they raised their family. A hard worker, Richard was a "jack of all trades". From being a metal finisher for Oklahoma Aerotronics and at the Army Ammunition plant, he finished his career as the owner of Poor Boy Video, in Krebs. He was in the United States Airforce and National Guard being honorably discharged on April 11, 1974. Mary preceded him in death in 2003. Richard married Lawanna (Walker) Long on February 14, 2009 in McAlester, Oklahoma. Active in their church and family life, they lived their time together as best friends and companions. Richard was a very humble and kind man with an ornery streak. He loved deeply, loved to dance, and lived gratefully. In his spare time, he loved playing games with family, doing word finds, or building one of his famous model airplanes in his work room. He was grateful for his family and friends and always thanked God for them in every prayer he led and they knew, without a doubt, how much he loved them. A member of the Northtown church of Christ, Richard was very grateful for his church family and loved when they came to visit him. Preceding him in death are his parents: Alton and Retta; his wife: Mary; his son: Melvin Sudduth; son-in-law: Rick Mitchell; and sweet pup: Tippy. Richard is survived by many loving family members including his wife, LaWanna Long-Sudduth of the home; his children: Ricky Lynn Sudduth of Bache, Beth Mitchell of Bache, and Luckitta Garcia of Del City; step children: B.J. Long of McAlester, John Long of McAlester, Terry Long and wife, Teresa of Norman, and Joy Tribbey and husband, Gaylon of McAlester; his daughter-in-law: Nancy Sudduth of Glenpool; special friend: Stinger of Bache; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends, and his sweet fur babies, Bandit and Bella. The family would like to thank special friends and caregivers: Lindsay Surginer and Danny Morgan for their love, help and support. Also thank you to Heartland Hospice, and other health care providers during this time of transition. "but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:31
